Working With Us

Meet Our People

Our strategic planners set the direction for our community

Senior strategic planner Rachel Agyare has worked at Auburn for eight years.

"Auburn Council is a great, innovative place to work - among my present challenges is the 2009 draft local environment plan. The people I work with really make my job - it's simply the best team."

Executive planner Jacky Wilkes said she worked on a great diversity of projects and that every day was exciting.

"I'm working on two very interesting projects at the moment - the 2009 draft Auburn local environment plan and the development control plan - that will renew the zones and land uses that apply across the local government area. Working in the NSW planning framework is a great experience for planners.

I liked it so much I came back!

GIS officer Ali Shojael has come back to work at Auburn after two years in private industry.

I have a really interesting and challenging job at council and a great career path, so this time I'm back here for the long term. I also missed the truly nice people - it's a great team to work with.

IT systems administrator Frank Camilleri returned from a larger council to rejoin the young IT team at Auburn

"I came back because Auburn is a great progressive place where they're not afraid to try new ideas and the camaraderie of the team is terrific. I know I have a good career path here."

Caring for kids

Childcare director Betty Condoleon joined council last year.

"I am really impressed at the high level of consultation in council and the opportunity to run a very well organised day care centre - I have an excellent team and a good community to deal with."

Childcare centre cook Mei Wu has worked at the centre for over 11 years.

"I love kids and it's great fun to make sure that they get healthy, nutritious meals. I also like the way that the parents get so involved in the centre - we're one big family here."

What is Local Government

Auburn Council is the local government agency that provides all the vital day to day services for the people of Auburn.

Council is responsible for all the things that impact on your daily lives - garbage collection, local roads, footpaths, parks, sporting ovals and pools, libraries, childcare, youth services, social and town planning and the local environment.

Importantly, Councils also regulate all building permissions in their areas - when you want to build or extend your house, your first stop is at Council.

Councils plan for the future of your area - our planners analyse the projected population growth for the area and plan services such as roads, parks, sporting and cultural facilities to meet the needs of our growing population.

The General Manager is responsible for the efficient and effective operation of the Council's organisation and for ensuring the implementation, without undue delay, or decisions of the Council.

The Mayor and the Councillors perform important civic and electoral duties in our community, hosting visiting dignitaries, attending events, listening to the community's concerns, and assessing and advising council management on setting the direction and controlling the affairs of the Council.

Councils are the ultimate form of democracy - local people elected by their neighbours to run their community.
